The Bangladesh Medical Students’ Society (BMSS) has wrapped up its flagship event, the National General Assembly 2025 (NGA’25), marking the country’s largest youth-led healthcare gathering to date.

Held on October 3 at Daffodil International University’s Smart City campus in Dhaka, the conference drew more than 800 medical students, young doctors, and health professionals from 85 local committees across 100 medical institutions.

This year’s theme, “PHOENIX: From Ashes We Heal, Through Waves We Rise,” celebrated the resilience and innovation of a new generation of healthcare leaders.

The Opening Ceremony featured Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Jafor, Director General of the DGHS, as Chief Guest, and National Professor A.K. Azad Khan, President of BADAS, as Keynote Speaker. Other distinguished guests included Prof. Dr. Muzaherul Huq (World Federation for Medical Education), Dr. Tahmina Shirin (IEDCR), and Prof. Dr. Mohammed Masum Iqbal, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University.

Throughout the day, participants attended 25+ thematic and clinical sessions led by experts from WHO, UNAIDS, UNESCO, icddr,b, BMRC, DGHS, and DGME. Topics included medical curriculum reform, reproductive and mental health, oral cancer screening, and advanced clinical training.

The research segment showcased student abstracts reviewed by researchers Dr. Ahmed Ehsanur Rahman (icddr,b) and Prof. Sohel Raza Chowdhury (National Heart Foundation).

The Closing Ceremony, presided over by Prof. Dr. Nazmul Hossain, DGME, honoured participants for excellence in research, skills, and leadership. Guests of Honour included Dr. Saima Khan (UNAIDS), Dr. Md. Nasir Uddin (NIBPS), and Prof. Dr. Halida Hanum Akhter (Johns Hopkins University).

The event concluded with the announcement of the new BMSS Executive Board, reaffirming BMSS’s role as a driving force for youth empowerment and healthcare innovation in Bangladesh.
