The 2026 school textbooks in Bangladesh will highlight the history of the July Uprising, listing ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a “genocide perpetrator.” Local government adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan revealed in a Facebook post that major changes are being made to ensure future generations learn about the 2024 July–August uprising and the people’s struggle against dictatorship.
According to sources, new editions of higher secondary civics and governance books will include details of the 2008 election, the uncontested 2014 polls with 154 walkover winners, the 2018 “midnight election,” and the 2024 “dummy election.” The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) also approved revisions to remove Awami League–centric glorification and to present a more balanced historical account.
